Artistic Heritage and Craftsmanship

Rooted in Tradition: Cheriyal Art, originating from Cheriyal, Telangana, is a living testament to India's ancient visual storytelling culture, dating back to the 16th–17th century.
Hereditary Craft: This art form is a cherished family tradition, passed down through generations of dedicated artisan families who have meticulously preserved its unique techniques and identity.
The Cheriyal Process: Traditionally, long vertical scrolls are crafted from khadi cloth. This cloth is ingeniously treated with a paste of tamarind seeds, rice starch, and white clay, creating a smooth, durable canvas.
Distinctive Style: Cheriyal paintings are characterized by bold outlines, flat, expressive figures, and a palette dominated by bright colors, often with red forming the background. The figures, with their large, expressive eyes and simple, lively forms, make every scene engaging and easily understood.
Adaptation for Modernity: While traditional storytelling has evolved, Cheriyal art has gracefully adapted. It is now expertly crafted into smaller formats, including paintings, masks, and decorative items, making it highly sought after for contemporary home décor.
